Welcome to our next blog. For those new to the blog and groups,  we focus on the Hebrew aspect of the scriptures. Knowledge of the Hebrew language is not a requirement to be part of this journey, however, it will inspire you to know more. If you are new to the Hebrew Letters, below is a link to the last blog on the Living Letters. Within that blog are the links to all the letters. (LINK)

Mystic realms of Hebrew words: JOY חֶדְוָה Ged-vah

Dictionary of Biblical Languages with Semantic Domains: Hebrew (Old Testament)

חֶדְוָה (ḥěḏ·wā(h)

1 Chronicles 16:27 NIV

Splendor and majesty are before him; strength and joy are in his dwelling place.

Nehemiah 8:10 NIV

Nehemiah said, “Go and enjoy choice food and sweet drinks, and send some to those who have nothing prepared. This day is holy to our Lord. Do not grieve, for the joy of the Lord is your strength.”

There are a couple of Hebrew words related to joy, happiness, joyfulness, delight etc, so חדוה is not the only one. What elevates this focus word are the two scriptures above related to it. They do not focus on the feeling or state of Joy, but it’s ORIGIN. The Joy OF THE LORD & Joy IN HIS DWELLING PLACE.

We live in a society that seeks to define the pursuit of happiness, whith a focus on ‘what’ rather than ‘who’. It motivates the pursuit of acquiring things that give pleasure or happiness rather than the true source of joy, finding your identity in what you have rather than who you are. It becomes a never-ending cycle of seeking those material factors to provide happiness and meaning. That cycle is like the wick of an oil lamp. If you don’t feed it constantly, it will eventually burn out and leave you in ashes.

In the Hebrew bible חֶדְוָה has a ו positioned before the word and a ב afterwards. Two letters directly related to mans’ spiritual position, connecting what’s above and below (ו), and as a temple (ב), expressing spiritual realities. As 2 Chronicles 16:27 describes, ‘joy is IN his dwelling place’. They use the Hebrew letter ב for the word ‘IN’. What is that dwelling place? You, of course.

John 15:10–11 NIV

If you keep my commands, you will remain in my love, just as I have kept my Father’s commands and remain in his love. I have told you this so that my joy may be in you and that your joy may be complete.

Philippians 4:4 NIV

Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice!

IN is the operative word. No one is more connected to true joy than the sons of God. You as the temple are the greenhouse for inexplicable joy. As joy expresses the indwelling spirit as in Galatians 5:22, it connects you to the source not dependent on the external for manifestation.

Psalm 16:11 NIV

You make known to me the path of life; you will fill me with joy in your presence, with eternal pleasures at your right hand.

Joy is the evidence of our source.

Nehemiah 8:10 NIV

Nehemiah said, “Go and enjoy choice food and sweet drinks, and send some to those who have nothing prepared. This day is holy to our Lord. Do not grieve, for the joy of the Lord is your strength.”

It is the realm we operate from that creates the fragrance of His presence. Joy radiates with the frequency and atmosphere of IN HIM. I completely understand when people express their pursuit of God’s presence, it shows intent and a hunger for Him. However, you, as the temple, contain Jesus in His fulness. There’s no shortage. It is there… ALL OF IT. As we unwrap the realms of being IN HIM and HIM IN US, we activate and unleash joy infused with the ecstasy of His presence, which has embedded in it the eternal pleasures from Yahweh’s hand. Joy creates. Yes. Joy creates. It enables an ability that is supernatural. When we consciously function from this place, we experience an abundance that is not dependent on circumstances, but connecting into the source of His presence within us, releasing the resources from heaven.

Psalm 21:6 NIV

Surely you have granted him unending blessings and made him glad with the joy of your presence.

2 Corinthians 8:2 NIV

In the midst of a very severe trial, their overflowing joy and their extreme poverty welled up in rich generosity.

Worry and anxiety is an antidote to joy. It is the complete opposite environment that seeks to create a false reality that Yahweh’s presence is distant, focussing on the immediate environment rather than Him. It disempowers the sons of God, cultivating an atmosphere of fear. When the enemy attempts to steal our joy, he is really trying to alter our source, the feed for our abundance. Happiness or sadness is not what he’s after, but our supply. He knows, when we operate from that realm, we function from a source that’s beyond his reach or influence. Stephen’s martyrdom was utterly frustrating his persecutors as the evidence of his strength clearly came by supernatural means. Whenever you are experiencing circumstances that threaten the joy within you, just close your eyes for a moment, relocate yourself mentally back into His presence. Though you’ve never left, you are reminding your human body you are a new creation being, the source of your joy is IN HIM and HIM IN YOU, not your experiences.

The word חדוה has a gematria of 23, I immediately thought of Psalm 23. Though the word ‘joy’ doesn’t appear in this Psalm, it overflows with the fruit of being positioned within חדוה.

Joy equips you with abundance, it amplifies throne room realities. It creates an environment of peaceful pastures, refreshing spirit, soul and body at the waters of life. It guides you along the path of perfect peace, though you could be in the darkest of days. Joy fears no evil as it paces with the leading and rhythms of Yahweh. In fact, joy entangles with the laughter of Yahweh. Dwelling in the house of the Lord, joy positions you for influence rather than being influenced.

I know there are many people who have simply lost their joy. Whether it be circumstances, pressures, a loss of focus or identity. To lose joy is to disconnect from our source. Yahweh is in the restoration business and He can restore your joy, connect you to your heavenly supply, anoint you with the oil of gladness and break the chains of despair.
