The men turned away and went toward Sodom, but Abraham remained standing before the Lord.
‘before’

פָּנָה (pā·nā(h)): v.; ≡ Str 6437
turn, i.e., make a non-linear pivoting motion to make a change in directionprepare, make ready, i.e., take actions of any kind to make an event or state possible note: in context this is often moving or changing the appearance of an object;
face, i.e., pertaining to a position which is in front of an object or a direction of orientation
turn, i.e., to have a change of state, or transition of time period
The bible sense dictionary (logos) describes פָּנָה as presence ⇔ face n. — the presence or proximity of someone understood in terms of the face; with the implication of being before or in front of them.
In this scripture, ‘the men’ who were messengers from Yahweh came to tell Abraham that Sarah will conceive a child the following year. They also brought the news of God’s pending judgement on Sodom. As the men turned away, Abraham did not follow them, but remained before Yahweh. Standing before (פָּנָה), it positioned Abraham in the realm of the full manifestation of the nature and glory of God. From this position, he could engage with Yahweh on a personal level. Not only was it personal, but he questioned Yahweh’s decision and pending action.

Then Abraham approached him and said: “Will you sweep away the righteous with the wicked?”
We might think that was brave of Abraham…. but Panah פָּנָה is about positioning. Once positioned, he engaged the realm of sonship and could then ‘approach’ Yahweh. The Hebrew word for ‘approach’ (nagas) is related to Genesis 19:22, when Isaac called to Jacob to approach him so he could bless him.
The gematria for פָּנָה is פ 80 + נ 50 + ה 5 = 135 = 9. TET ט represents ‘goodness’ which enabled Moses to see a measure of Yahweh’s glory pass before him. What פָּנָה does, is it transcends the sons of God into a realm of throne room engagement. For Abraham to question Yahweh came not from a position of doubt or scepticism, but from a realm of co-creating, complete partnership. There is a quiet confidence within פָּנָה that is not boastful nor arrogant, but a knowing of who and what we are in Him. As new creation beings, Yahweh has reserved a realm within פָּנָה where the sons sit on the council to deliberate, strategise as well as….. ADVISE. Jesus wants your opinion. He wants your input, and He reserved a specific seat for you to engage your kingship and rule as a son. The Hebrew word for council also means to confide and have intimate fellowship. No angel has the privilege of the intimacy and affection that is available to the sons. That means there are specific inputs and engagements within the council that only the sons of God can give… i.e. YOU. When the heavenly hosts see you occupy your seat, they equally notice you seated with Christ in heavenly places. When you take up that seat, the realms you occupy accompany you as crowns and thrones, and they, the heavenly council, can see that. That’s the reason Abraham was able to take up his seat as advisor and engage in reasoning with Yahweh. Through פָּנָה he stepped into new creation living and ruled with his Father.
